Kathryn is precise, pragmatic and effective. She is an experienced civil litigator who appears frequently in the High Court, District Court and various Tribunals. Kathryn has significant experience in building and construction litigation and assists clients in a wide range of contentious matters, including debt recovery and insolvency, breach of copyright, estate claims and contractual disputes. Biography

Kathryn commenced her legal career in 2012 in the commercial litigation group of a large Auckland law firm focusing on construction litigation.  Kathryn appeared as junior counsel before the Weathertight Homes Tribunal and High Court, including a number of appeals and judicial reviews.  Kathryn also represented clients in insolvency proceedings and was involved in providing advice on a broad range of contentious issues.

From 2017 – 2021, Kathryn worked at two commercial firms in Auckland.  Her practice was varied and the subject matter she advised clients on included construction law, breach of contract, debt recovery, intellectual property, insolvency and contempt of court.  She also advised clients in drafting and reviewing construction contracts.


Outside of work Kathryn enjoys spending time exploring New Zealand and competing in multisport events.

Experience

Kathryn’s legal experience includes the following matters:

  • lead counsel in High Court debt recovery and insolvency proceedings;
  • representing clients at mediations and providing strategic advice regarding settlement;
  • junior counsel in High Court leaky building proceedings, including single dwellings and multi-units;
  • providing advice to bodies corporate in respect of rights and obligations under the Unit Titles Act 2010, including disputes relating to levies and fees;
  • junior counsel in commercial litigation in the High Court, including a number of appeals and judicial reviews;
  • advising clients regarding drafting and negotiating construction contracts;
  • advising clients in relation to employment matters;
  • advising and acting for a client seeking to enforce an overseas arbitral award;
  • representing clients in construction adjudications;
  • representing an estate as lead counsel in a High Court proceeding; and
  • acting for a client defending breach of copyright allegations.
